Oh, my 80s soul.

Remember those hypercolor rings, that they said you could tell your emotions from based on what color it turned? Well, check this out: Hypercolor glass bathroom tiles, by UltraGlas! Oooh. I wants. Along with leg warmers, scrunchies, and the latest New Kids on the Block tape…

Shave and a latte

My next stock picks are boring ones: Starbucks and Procter and Gamble. Both score 11/14 on my scale and show impressive growth each year. Except this year, of course – but we knew that already. (Articles abound on what a horrible year it’s going to be on Wall Street and why: primarily the bottom falling […]

Sign me up for a suit and tie.

Well, I did it. As of yesterday, I am a bonafide stock trader. I’ve been meaning to get into it for a long time now, but only just recently sat down with some books to figure it out. I’ve been devouring about a book per night, including stuff from the Motley Fool and Investing for […]

Yay! It looks like Curves is finally paying off.  I had my second monthly weight-and-measure today, and I lost: – 8 cumulative inches (1/2 inch here, 2 inches there) – 5.5 pounds – 0.9% body fat (3.05 pounds pure fat) W00t!

In anticipation of tomorrow…

I just had to talk about the last Harry Potter. I know, I know, I’m a grown woman, reading a children’s book? Reading all seven of them? Henry Rollins, much as I adore you, I’m gonna have to disagree with you one this one – there’s nothing wrong with that. Especially since I’m reading Richard […]

The Beautiful and the Grotesque

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Via Cabinet magazine and Neatorama: The images above illustrate the results of an unusual artistic collaboration between the French artist Hubert Duprat and a group of caddis fly larvae. A small winged insect belonging to the order Trichoptera and closely related to the butterfly, caddis flies live near streams and ponds and produce aquatic larvae […]

Anaheim Chiles

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

It’s getting bigger and bigger! Problem is, I don’t know what it’s supposed to look like when it’s ripe. Do Anaheim chiles turn red? Is it ripe now? Is it supposed to get much bigger? I know that hot chiles take longer to mature than sweet peppers, so for now I’ll leave it to stew […]

Aaaaaaaah. The whole house has a slight fragrance of vanilla-dipped gardenias. (Josh says the house smells  like a bordello. I think it’s a nice change from cat pee.)
