Out with the old, and in with the old

I got pretty carried away with the chair reupholstering (well ok, fabric shopping) and ended up deciding that if I were going to spruce up our dining room, I might as well go all the way. So I installed a chair rail and have begun the process of repainting.

It does seem pretty funny to me that I’m “updating” our dining room by adding old-fashioned decor and painting the walls avocado, of all things. I guess trends really do come full circle.

The inside of the china cabinet must be painted as well, which (sigh) means sanding all the gloss off it first. And then I gotta work on those lintels next – the three trimmed doors are all different heights and it makes the room look pretty hodge-podge. I’m going to add heavier (mini fireplace-mantel-esque) lintel pieces with some trim underneath and make them all the same height (that will be tricky) to reiterate the calming horizontal line introduced by the chair rail. If I don’t get sidetracked again, crown moulding might come next… though the kitchen cabinets are beckoning, and my kitchen island is weeping for its facelift.

WOW!!! I love the color you chose!!! It is fabulous!!! Seems to go really well with the wood tone on the dorrway, too. Great choice!
