Now I pee without guilt

I bought these dual-flush-conversion kits at Costco about a month ago. For those of you not in the know, a dual-flush toilet has, well, two flushes. You push up for #1 and it dispenses a little bit of water. If you need (ahem) more water, you push the lower button. This can save you around 2 gallons per flush, I believe, which over time adds up when you drink as much tea as I do.

Somehow, though, I never got around to installing them. And then I got our water bill. (Now granted, this was for all summer, and we’d filled up our pool. But still – motivation is motivation.)

Oh well, I figured, it’s 11:30 pm, what else do I have to do?

I did both the kitchen and hallway (guest) bathrooms. I wanted to put one in the master bathroom because that’s the one we use the most, but it was all new-fangled-up inside (has a square intake-valvey-thing) and so it wouldn’t work. In our case that’s actually ok (ish) because being newer, it has a much smaller tank anyway.

Pros: Super easy to install. I did need a wrench for a handle I installed too tightly before, but otherwise no tools needed. It’ll supposedly save us thousands of gallons of water per year (double for us, since our county charges us for both water intake and wastewater output). Nice-looking. Cheap – only $19 at Costco.

Cons: The button’s a little hard to push (in fact, I wonder if it’s a good idea now that we’ve started thinking about potty-training Sofía – I’m sure she couldn’t push it). Finicky to adjust to get just the right amount of water flow per flush; I don’t have it quite right yet.  May not fit newer models of toilets – check inside the tank for a circular flow valve before opening your box.

Not being able to flush for herself might not be a bad thing! Will prevent multiple flushes for amusment’s sake (and some kids are scared of the toilet flushing).

Huh, good point. Did you see that youtube video where the couple were flabbergasted at their multiple hundred dollar water bill and set up a video in the bathroom… and it turned out their cat was flushing their toilet over and over and over again? Pretty funny!

Great going (Yes, pun intended–you know me…)
The Monterey Sports Gym has that kind. I thought it was a different kind of toilet altogether.
    You are so talented.
