Finalement, c’est fini

I stayed up til 2:30 last night finishing the dress.

I made shoulder rolls and tried to attach them via snaps. But that wasn’t going to work – snaps small enough to be unobtrusive weren’t strong enough to hold on the puffy rolls. So in the end I just basted them on. They can be cut off and re-basted on each time.

The modesty panel for the back lacing is finished, individually boned, and attached via two little snaps.

A lot of time went into Renaissancing up the skirt. First I attached a paperclip (coated, to prevent rust) and a ribbon to the inside of the bridal underskirt. That way the underskirt’s train can be pulled up underneath the overskirt and tied. For use at the Renaissance Faire, ya know, so it doesn’t drag in the mud.

Then I used the remaining big pearls to spangle the front with quadrilles.

I’m wishing the front flaps weren’t quite so wavy – the material itself is so light and puckered that it is hard to get a straight line. The obsessive perfectionist in me might just have to take all those pearls off again, open up the skirt, attach interfacing, and resew it in the hopes of getting a stiffer straight line on the opening. Sigh.

Maybe I’ll just see what the subject thinks.

wow what a lot of work and love–she better be more than happy.
do we get to see a picture of her in the TOTAL dress? Pieces leave too much to the imagination as to how it goes together.
love the pearl “flowerets” on the skirt.
