Solar works!
Just a quick update – the passive solar chicken waterer works! To an extent. When I go out in the mornings it is full of slush, not frozen solid like the other waterers – I can live with that. When I put the chickens to bed it is still liquid, yay! Of course each day’s high has been around 34, 35 instead of 28, so if there’s another really cold week we will have to see.
I’m still thinking of getting a hanging, heated waterer (did you know they have temperature-controlled outlets so the heating element only turns on when it goes below freezing?) because the daft chickens have already once turned over their new waterer and pecked away all the insulation off the bottom.
Chicken are so dumb.
