Lookee what I got

I’ve never really participated in internet memes, so imagine my surprise when my latest blog “crush”, Ohiofarmgirl’s Adventures in the Good Land, awarded me the Versatile Blogger Award!

Aw, thanks Ohiofarmgirl! Everyone that doesn’t know her should go check out her blog. She’s funny, innovative, and can ghetto-build anything out of random scraps she has lying around. I am convinced she is my long-lost sister. And she has three brand new baby goats!

So, according to the rules I’m supposed to first say seven things about myself and then link more blogs that I think deserve the “Versatile” award. Normally I don’t participate in these kinds of things because

1) I’m secretly shy and don’t like to talk about myself much (hence the reason this blog is all about projects, not my squishy feelings!)

2) I’m always worried about stepping on people’s toes and maybe not saying the right thing socially. So let’s just say that if I link you here, it’s because I crazy admire you… but if you don’t participate in turn, it really won’t hurt my feelings. Really!

Actually I didn’t think I’d be able to think up seven personal things to tell you, but there are two right there. Huh! So maybe I can come up with five more.

3) I never really got the whole “girl+shoes” thing because I think shoes are boring. I own a single set of actual dressy high-heeled shoes. My very very favorite pair of shoes ever is a pair of steel-toed, ankle-lacing, waterproof work boots that Josh bought me years and years ago. I only wish they came in slip-ons because yes I am that lazy.

4) I think procrastination is a family curse. What I do get done I publish here, but what you don’t see is that bag of shelled nuts that I’ve been meaning to crack for the chickens since just after Christmas… Or the laundry that gets washed, promptly dried, promptly folded, and then sits in the basket on top of our bureau for two days or maybe more. (Wait, is my husband reading this?) It’s not like I ever watch TV. So where does the time go? I wish I were superwoman.

5) I don’t blog every day – I’ll usually write up two or three at a time and schedule them for several mornings in a row. So if you see them one after another, each dated at some ungodly hour like I was actually awake, cogent and productive at 8am… it is lies! Now you know.

6) I was a vegetarian for five years, and missing hot dogs and sushi was the hardest part. Seriously – kosher hot dogs. I know they’re disgusting but I still love ’em, even if just half of one now sends me to bed groaning in a cold sweat. Sigh. Chicken dogs just aren’t the same.

7) I go to bed waaaay too late, around 12:30. It works for me because Sofía doesn’t wake up until 9am every day. I get most of my best work done in the evenings, after she goes to bed. I am literally racked with guilt about not getting up at daybreak like a real farm girl. I’ve been leaving the blinds open to let the morning sun in. Didn’t work. The next step is to get a rooster. Or maybe going to bed in the first place… and lookee thar, it’s 12:30am again and time to wrap this up.

So now it’s your turn, fellow bloggers. In no particular order, here’s 10 very versatile bloggers that I greatly admire and read regularly:

Casa Decrepit

Angry Chicken

Living the Frugal Life

Hunter Angler Gardener Cook

Pluck And Feather

These Days in French Life

Back to Basic Living

Birdworms and Buttermilk

Chickens in the Road

Itty Bitty Farm in the City

Readers, if you like my blog, you’ll probably love all of these and should definitely peek in on them. Bloggers – again, no compulsion to participate but I thought I’d spread the love!

I loved reading your seven things! And thank you so much for awarding me with the Versatile Blogger Award! I am honored.

Congrats on your award! And thanks so much for thinking of me. I don’t participate in these memes. It’s not so much out of any principle, but just that I procrastinate so long on responding that I decided it’s much better to respond immediately with appreciation than to keep telling myself I’d get to it eventually. So thank you for the kind thoughts, and I hope some of your other awardees will continue the process.

Hi and thanks for thinking of me, it made my day. I enjoyed learning about you, but have to say I will take a pass on the sharing part because I have a bit too much on my plate right now to get it done in a timely way!

I find it interesting that of the blogs you’ve selected, I’ve visited 7 of them before and read a number of them quite a bit. Casa Decrepit was one of the first blogs I ever read and to this day I am still amazed at all Ayse and Noel have accomplished.

Thanks again, I look forward to reading more of your blog.

I know, Casa Decrepit is amazing isn’t it? Ayse’s also very sharing and helpful with all her knowledge.

I found almost all the blogs I most love by clicking through other beloved blogger’s blogrolls. (what a mouthful!) It’s a good way to find more bloggers with similar interests. :)
