I’ve never been able to grow leeks before. They just never got very big.

Well, I guess the key is to give them lots of manure and then ignore them all year.

These beauties are huge! The slugs killed more than half of them, but the ones that survived look fantastic. They are just as big around as the supermarket leeks with one key difference – I buried them very deeply when I planted them. Thus the useable white leek part is much longer than you’d normally find.

And oh, they smell good!

I only picked five, and I think there are another 5-7 out there awaiting my pleasure. (I had planted about 30. Sometimes I hate organic gardening.)

Braised leeks, leek soup, leek-and-chard quiche, leeks gratin… any other favorite ways to enjoy leeks?
