Bed time

I’m crafting again!

Lately I’ve been busy just keeping the girls alive and happy. I’ve done some fun things like a lotion workshop for several friends – that was a lot of fun! – and a batch of soap made with hop essential oil for Josh. Josh opened the pool and I got the front beds all mulched & replanted in the bare spots.

I shoveled out the winter’s accumulation of compost in the chicken coop and with it, we planted a few veggie beds in the garden. They were all booming until everything got eaten down by the deer and groundhogs… now we’re pretty much just leaving the garden alone and letting the whole thing lay fallow until next year. Except for the blackberries, which are multitudinous and huge but tart, and the raspberries, which are absolutely delicious (must remember to plant more of those!)

And this weekend we’re going to a birthday party for an adorable little girl with an American Girl doll, so I used an hour here and there to start this project.

Can you tell what it is?

I got the dimensions from Ana White, though on the advice of another blog I reduced the width to 14″. And of course I only decided to start this yesterday, so I had to drastically simplify the design.

Using all scrap wood, I managed to put together a sweet little simple bed in just two days. Thank goodness I just bought a jigsaw, as I could do all the cuts lickety-split. (Some day I’ll have a table saw, but in the mean time I’ll settle for not having to do each cut with a hand saw!)

I got it primed tonight and will sand and paint tomorrow… in the mean time, I’ve got some sheets and pillows to sew!

    just a thought…
if the berries are booming, maybe you could plant more as a hedge against the deer. Sure they’d eat the outside, but maybe the thorns would keep them from your vege patch…

You know, that’s not a bad idea!
