Striving for Martha
Today I spent about 2 hours cleaning house. And I don’t mean just tidying… I mean cleaning. I windexed the porch light. I wiped down the walls. Heck, I even dusted the baseboards.
No, it’s not the nesting instinct. It’s part of a new plan I have to keep house – maybe I’ll even be able to keep it as clean as Josh’s relatives keep theirs (yeah, right)!
Now that I’m a stay-at-home-pre-mom full time, I think I’d go crazy without something to do every day. So, inspired by this AskMetafilter post, “If it’s Thursday, I must be churning“, I did a little bit of research and more than a little bit of obsessive-compulsive listmaking, and came up with a thorough weekly housecleaning routine.
Each day one or two rooms gets cleaned top to bottom: and I mean windexing windows, dusting, vacuuming, the works (of course there’s still the stuff you do all the time, like laundry and dishes). Monday= the foyer, dining room, and front garden. Tuesday= the living room and back garden. Wednesday= the kitchen (which totally needs a day all to itself). Thursday= the bathrooms and nursery. Friday= the bedroom. The first week of every month is for larger projects, like washing rugs and throws and rearranging bookcases. The idea, basically, is if I don’t have to do more than two hours of it every day, it might actually get done. We shall see.
I ain’t touching Josh’s man-cave, though. I can barely push the door open for all the caving and climbing gear piled in there.
Highlights for tomorrow include de-cat-hairing the cat tree. And our persian rug. And our sofa. Sound fun? Don’t you wish you were me? -grin-

You’ve obviously not visited ALL of Joshua’s relative’s homes . . .
I am a total pack rat and cleaning is at the bottom of my “to do” list. I always figured if we were fed, bathed and had clean clothes, then that was enough to get by.
Now I don’t even do much cooking. Good luck on keeping up with your schedule.
