She likes him better

Little S was lying in bed with J and I this morning and she started saying “Da-da. Da-da. Da-da.” NOT “dadadadadadadadammrfmglagh,” but actual little word-units.

I know she has no idea that the sounds actually mean anything – there was no sense of linking them to the actual Dada lying next to her -  but it is exciting nonetheless. And a sign that I need to up my linguistic onslaught of “Mama. Mama. Mama. Best! Favorite! Mama.”

linguistically, I think it has been documented that DADA is usually the first “real” word a baby says–regardless of whether the dada is actually in the picture or not. Don’t tell Josh though–I bet he is tickled pink. Let’s keep him that way.
P.s. I think you also denied me the right of First Label…

OK, I laughed out loud when I read this.

However, I will say that or a long time when my little one said mama, it meant either me or my husband, or maybe just things that mama could do or him (snuggle, etc), so don’t take it so literally!
